Retreats for years 10, 11 and 6th Form

Year 10: Step Up: a Bold Adventure
As we move through the adventure of life, every day we make statements about who we are and what we believe in.  Sometimes, these statements are made with ease and sometimes it takes boldness to ‘step up’ and be the person we are called to be.  Young people in Year 10 have in many ways entered a new phase of life: preparing for GCSE’s; taking on more responsibilities; experiencing new peer pressures and making decisions that will affect the way they will live their life.  This can also be time to really ‘step-up’ and make a difference in the world around them.  We will explore Christian leadership and the tools needed to be a leader through the example Jesus gave us.  It will offer practical ways of exploring faith and ways the young people can have a real positive impact on the world around them.

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink, nor about your body and what you shall wear.” Matt 6:25

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”  Phil 4:13

‘Let no one look down on you because you are young, but set an example for those who believe, in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity.’ 1Tim 4:11

Options: residential (up to 50) or day (up to two classes, app. 60)

Year 11: Heroic virtue
Most of us have a favourite super hero; a character that possesses some sort of unique and special gift that is used for the good of the world.  As Christians, if we learn to develop the gift of virtue in our lives, it can have a similar colossal effect on our own life and the world around us.   Virtues dispose us for relationship with divine love and love of neighbour.   Using a fun super-hero theme, this retreat will explore what some of these virtues are and how the practice of them can positively affect the lives of a year 11 student.

“Whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”  Phil 4:8

Options: residential (up to 50) or day (up to two classes, app. 60)

6th form: Come Away... and Listen
This retreat is designed for those young people who are serious about growing closer in their relationship with God.  It offers a combination of practical workshops and quiet prayer times.   Workshops will focus on listening, praying, and learning to discern God’s will for our lives.

‘Arise, My beloved, and come’ Song of Songs 2:10

Options: residential (up to 50) or day (up to two classes, app 60)

6th form: Building on the Rock
6th form students find themselves in a time of transition in life, preparing to take on more independence and adulthood.  Moving on to new challenges and pressures can often pose a real challenge to maintain a faith life.  Jesus tells us that His Word is the rock foundation that we can trust to endure the tests of difficulty in our lives.  This retreat offers an opportunity to assess how firm the foundations of our house of faith are built and how we can prepare now to strengthen and grow in a relationship with God.  We will look at the foundation of faith and practical ways we can grow and build on that foundation in our relationship with God and with the community around us.  We will also look at practical ways we can be well prepared for the ‘storms’ when they come.

‘Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the floods came, the wind blew, and buffeted the house.  But it did not collapse; it had been set solidly on rock’  Matt 7:24-26

Options: residential (up to 50) or day (up to two classes, app 60)
